Welcome to the web page of The Federated Church of East Arlington. The first question asked by those unfamiliar with our congregation is usually, “What is a Federated Church?” The official line is that ours is a congregation that exists because of the coming together of two different churches, one a Congregational (now the United Church of Christ) and the other United Methodist back in 1946 when it was clear that the size of our community could not continue to support two churches across the street from each other that shared so much in common. Since that time, the word “federated” in our title has come to mean a coming together of people of faith or in search of faith who bring with them their own traditions and beliefs to this one special place in the community. Ours is a community that worships, serves and learns with an appreciation of our past, grounded clearly in the present and with an eye to the future.
Part of the future involves the use of technology such as the Internet. Through this medium we are able to reach so many more folks than those who might drive through our small and scenic Vermont town or even read about us in the newspaper. It is our hope that this site will serve our members as well as reach out to interested folks around the country and even the world. If you see a program or service or offering that interests you, please contact us and let us know how we might include you. We strive to be church in the world and one new ministry is through the use of computer technology. We are in the business of helping make connections with God and the world as well as with each other.
We hope that you will have the opportunity to spend time with us – possibly in worship, in a class or workshop, on a mission project or through one of our many ministries. May this site open doors for you and perhaps bring forth questions. It is in the seeking of answers about God and faith that we most need each other’s company for the journey!
